As the mother of Mary and the grandmother of Jesus, Saint Ann embodies deep faith, steadfast love, and devotion to God’s Word. As a Jewish woman, she represents openness and respect for all people of faith. She reminds us of the importance of family, wisdom, and reverence for the elderly. As an ordinary woman of faith, Saint Ann reveals that holiness is found in everyday life.
Saint Ann experienced many challenges. Her daughter, Mary, faced an unplanned pregnancy, and her son-in-law, Joseph, considered ending their marriage. Her daughter became a refugee when she fled to Egypt, and her grandson, Jesus, was sentenced to death. Through it all, she remained faithful and hopeful.
Saint Ann taught her daughter to pray, to work hard, to love her neighbors, and to navigate the world with wisdom and grace. In her, we see not only the grandmother of Jesus, but a timeless example of faith, strength, and compassion.
