Please be aware that parishioners from St. Ann’s, and other local parishes, have received suspicious e-mails and/or calls that claim to be from clergy, church staff members, and volunteers. At St. Ann’s specifically, individuals are receiving e-mails that appear to be from Fr. McHugh requesting that gift cards be purchased for individuals who are sick or otherwise in need. These are fake e-mails in an attempt to scam people out of money. Please note: our parish does not make unsolicited calls or e-mails to request money, the purchase of gifts, or your personal information. Should an individual receive suspicious correspondence of this nature they are advised to not provide any information to the person contacting them or, if possible, to not respond. Civil authorities are aware of this matter. If you are unsure of any correspondence that appears to be from our parish, please call us at 860-673-9858 to verify. Thank you for your vigilance and cooperation.
(Click Title for More Information) For the more than 10 years St. Ann’s Faith Formation families have been involved in charitable efforts for the poor people of Haiti, specifically in the mountainside village of Carrefour. Our connection to these people is through Mary Lou Connors, a parishioner and nurse, who visits Haiti to provide medical assistance twice annually. We are asking for new or GENTLY used CLEAN shoes that are durable and suitable for the rough rocky terrain in Haiti. We encourage you to help your child make a personal connection by learning more about Haiti and how our efforts, as a parish community, can make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children. Please ask your child to place a note or special gift (a pair of socks, ribbons, barrettes, small toy, etc.) in the toe of the shoe as gesture of care and friendship. (Please do not place candy, gum, crayons, etc. – its melts during shipping to Haiti)
This weekend our Faith Formation students took home Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowls. What is CRS Rice Bowl? According to the CRS website: "CRS Rice Bowl is Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten program for families and faith communities in the United States who want to put their faith into action. Through CRS Rice Bowl, participants are invited to hear stories about their brothers and sisters in need around the world, and devote their Lenten prayers, fasting and alms to change the lives of those who suffer in poverty." Be sure to check out the CRS app which offers daily reflections, recipes, and a way to track your Lenten sacrifices. The app is downloadable on Apple devices and Google Play: https://www.crsricebowl.org/about Rice Bowls are due back to Avon Middle School on March 31!
Thank you to the hundreds of participants who brought ingredients to Fr. Bennett Hall and made sandwiches for the hungry in Hartford this past Sunday. We delivered 903 sandwiches (nearly double last year’s quantity!!) and dozens of homemade St. Valentine’s Day cards to ImmaCare and Mercy Shelters and the Cathedral Food Pantry. With such a windfall, we also made a spontaneous delivery to McKinney Shelter, whose clients were so grateful to have fresh meat and cheese sandwiches on Superbowl Sunday! Thanks to broader publicity, several people from the greater community joined our sandwich ministry this year, to “do something kind for people in need.” At each sandwich-making session, we talked about the factors that contribute to hunger and homelessness (poverty, abuse, mental and physical illness, etc.), asked for God’s blessing on the food, and prayed that our gesture of love would alleviate some of our recipients’ suffering. Mark your calendar for next year’s Sandwich Sunday, Feb 2, 2020!
