The name ‘Tenebrae’ means darkness or shadows and it is a Holy Week devotion dating back to the 7th or 8th Century A.D. It is characterized by successive extinguishing of candles as the service progresses. No service during the entire church year is more biblical: Every word of Tenebrae is taken verbatim from the scriptures. The purpose of the service, through prayer and music, is to recreate the emotional aspects of the passion story and the events leading up to Good Friday; it is left unfinished, because the story isn’t over until Easter Sunday. Attending this powerfully moving service will set the tone, introduce the themes and adjust your heart and mind for the great events of the Passion and will help you prepare your heart for an even greater experience of Easter JOY! We will be having Tenebrae on Wednesday, April 12th at 7:30pm.
