Prayer Shawl Ministry
Saint Ann’s Prayer Shawl Ministry
At Saint Ann’s, our Prayer Shawl Ministry, comprised of a group of approximately 20 knitters and crocheters, has just celebrated our 21st year. We make prayer shawls and lap robes that are given to those who are in need of comfort, for instance, those battling cancer or other illnesses, for those who have lost a loved one, as well as for those who may be suffering in other ways. The lap robes are ideal for those who are wheelchair-bound. If you want a prayer shawl or lap robe to give to someone, please reach out to Tina (contact information below).
Prayer shawls are not all that we create! Our First Communicants each received a crocheted cross from our group this year (see photo). We have made baby hats, caps and blankets that are donated to area hospitals and charities such as Two Hearts Pregnancy Care Center. Scarves and hats were made and donated to Prudence Crandall and Immacare shelters.
From September through June, we meet monthly, on the first Monday of every month, from 7-8:30pm in Fr. Bennett Hall. We welcome all levels of knitters and crocheters, from beginners to advanced levels. And if you want to learn how to knit or crochet, we will gladly teach you. Yarn and needles are available for your use to start a project.
Our shawls are based on the pattern of the Prayer Shawl Ministry founders, Janet Bristow and Vicky Cole-Galo, who in 1998 “took their love of knitting and applied it to the spiritual practice of making prayer shawls.” The basic pattern is a Knit 3 Purl 3 pattern that is derived from the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
Please feel free to join us at any meeting!
