The Prayer Shawl Ministry at St Ann’s is comprised of a group of knitters and crocheters. We make prayer shawls that are given to those who are in need of comfort, for instance, those battling cancer or other illnesses, for those who have lost a loved one, as well as for those who may be suffering in other ways.
Additionally, our group makes “Blinkies” for every baby baptized in the parish. We have made preemie caps and blankets that are donated to area hospitals and NICU units. We have made wool helmet liners for the US troops overseas. Other items we have made are lap blankets for those in convalescent homes and recently, pocket prayer shawls for our First Communicants.
Our group meets monthly, on the first Monday evening of every month, from 7-8:30pm in room 2 of Fr. Bennett Hall. We welcome all levels of knitters and crocheters, from beginners to advanced levels. If you want to learn how to knit or crochet, we will gladly teach you.
Our shawls are based on the pattern of the Prayer Shawl Ministry founders, Janet Bristow and Vicky Cole-Galo, who in 1998 “took their love of knitting and applied it to the spiritual practice of making prayer shawls.” The basic pattern is a Knit 3 Purl 3 pattern that is derived from the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
Please feel free to join us at any meeting!
We have yarn that you can use to start your prayer shawl.
