Congratulations on the birth of your child! In general, the ordinary time to administer the Sacrament of Baptism is immediately following the 11:00 am Mass on Sundays and may be celebrated by either one of our deacons or our pastor, Fr. Fontana. We celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism on Sunday because it is the day of the Lord’s resurrection, commemorating a death to sin and a beginning of a new life in the Sacrament of Baptism.
We try to schedule only one Baptism per Sunday but as this is a large parish there may be two families scheduled. Attendance at the Mass is encouraged and we can even reserve a couple pews at the front of the Church for family and friends.
Parents of the child should be active members of Saint Ann and need to call the Parish Office if they are not. Parents of the child whose grandparents are active members of Saint Ann or parents who are registered with another parish will be considered. If this is the case, then parents need to provide a letter from the Pastor of the Church to which they are registered indicating that they are Catholics in good standing and wish to have their child baptized at a Church other than at their Parish Church.
If this is your first child, or you have not had any instruction in the Sacrament of Baptism, you are required to attend a pre-Baptismal class. This class is held by appointment only with a baptism class volunteer or with a deacon. Please call the Parish Office who will help you arrange for the class.
Godparents should be chosen in accordance with the canons. (Please see more information about Godparents below) All Catholic sponsors are to have a sponsor certificate issued from the Parish they attend attesting to the fact that they are Catholics in good standing. Please mail all sponsor certificates as soon as possible or at least 2 weeks prior to the baptism to the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon, CT 06001.
There are no fees for the Sacrament of Baptism; however, typically a donation is made to the Parish. Checks are to be made out to The Church of Saint Ann and should be given to the Priest or Deacon at the time of the Baptism.
If you have a child you wish to have baptized, please call or visit the Parish Office 860-673-9858, ext. 221.
